Default I want to do some track days, how do I start?

I've done a serach but couldn't find anything.

Where do I get started? I'm planning on becoming a member of NASA and maybe SCCA, but do I need to? Are there track days that you don't have to be a "member" to attend? I like that NASA has you start out with an instructor.

What other organizers are there? Are there ever any track days at the California Speedway (Cali people). ARe there any important things I need to know?

Thanks and I apologize if you've answered this question over and over and over an..........

www.speedventures.net

Great people. Tons of fast S2000s there. Very safety conscious.

Speedventures is a great starting point for S2000 owners who want to get on the track.

Here's a thread on track days with some info on basic stuff in the last post. It's geared to track events in the Phoenix area, but NASA and the SCCA are nationwide. So you could use the links in there to info on events in your area. Speedventures sounds like a great track organization too.

One more question.

I'm buying tires for my stock wheels for track only. I've decided on VictoRacers but I noticed on TireRack that you can buy them full tread or shaved? Which should I get? I don't plan on using these in wet conditions. I'm guessing the unshaved one would last longer?

Thanks

Speedventures is great. I would go to the Tracquest events as they provide instructors for each car and you learn much more riding with the instructors. You can check them out at http://www.tracquest.com/ we are going to Laguna Seca again March 1st and 2nd. If you have any questions just PM me.

Open Track Racing holds events about every five to six weeks at Willow Springs and they are very reasonably priced. Their next event is March 3rd. They are a great bunch of guys that put on the events and they also have instructors for beginners. You can check them out at www.opentrackracing.com.

Do not buy Victoracers they are designed for auto-x (heat up really fast, don't last long and wear out quickly). Get shaved Toyo RA-1s (always shaved). They will last 4x longer and don't overhead and blister like the victoracers. Search for Vilven and order a set (I paid $642 shaved and shipped).

As to your original question, Go to www.speedventures.net and sign up for their next event. You can't learn to swim if you don't get wet. NASA and SCCA are fine but you won't get near the track time and they are a bit regimented. SV is your best bet.
