Or you can be like me and spend all day looking at...
and
while trying to figure out how to become a millionaire so I can afford these toys and still have time to actually play with them.

What do you do that you do that you spend all day looking at those?
Just used your gear calculator. Looks like I'll be topping out at about 154 mph on the new Miller Motor Sports Park track. They just announced that Alan Wilson -- designed the track and a few others -- will be GM for the track when it opens in Aug-2005. Will be the longest track in the US.

As for Nascar being the easiest, in some ways yes, in some ways no. Next, keep in mind that on a road course you can screw up one section of the track and make it up by being really good on another section. On an oval, you can't make mistakes - especially because everyone's cars are so similar.

Where is this place? How long will it be, how many turns?

Looks like they will need to have some barriers to prevent an out of control car crossing from one section to another.
Great looking track though. We'll need to plan an event there. I'd drive out.

Kind of like drag racing, any idiot can do that.
That may be one of the most moronic statements I've ever seen in print. I seriously doubt you could even keep a top fuel car pointed straight for 100', let alone be competitive over 1/4 mile. You think controlling 8000HP is easy?!
I spent a good part of last season with the NHRA guys writing for ESPN. Those are probably the most difficult cars to drive in existence! It may only be a straight line, but it sure as hell isn't easy!
There was an article in SI a few weeks ago where the writer did an oval track day in a Nascar type car and came to a similar conclusion as you. He thought that it really wasn't all that hard.
Despain took serious issue and came up with one of his better lines:
"Just because you can walk out onto a field and throw a football, doesn't mean you can be competitive in the NFL."
