How many miles should one have before doing a racing/lapping weekend at buttonwillow? I know you can redline after 600 but I am at 1200 and worrying about the wisdom of redlining it dozens of times ina single weekend. How long does it take the engine to break in enough to do this safely? I intend to own the car for a while so I am concerned about long term wear.

IMO you won't get all the car has to offer until it is fully broken in, probably after 5K miles.. but I can't see how you would hurt it taking it to an event now.

1200 miles is plenty. It's good to go but like cdelena sez it's not at its peak until about 5K miles.

the guy i am buying my S2000 off of at the end of this LONNNGGG week, has been through many many hondas and is actually a car salesman, his friend is a Honda mechanic at Diamond Bar Honda and he was told by the mechanic not to exceed 5000 rpm for the first 3000 miles and after that the car should be fine for redline. he sed thats what he did and hasn't had any problems with the car.
