How to launch?
I know this has been covered over and over but I feel my situation differs as I think I might have a clutch problem.
Alright today at an Autox my co-driver decided to try the first clutch drop on the car. From what I've read it's 7000+ rpm and drop it and everything should be fine. So at the line he revved her up to 7K and droped it and Wham the car made a loud noise and just caught and bogged away. Obviously the first thought that crossed my mind was "dear god is my tranny ok" then I started to wonder why they didn't spin. Fearful of breaking things we didn't try again till later (thats another story)
it was about 50 degrees. Bran new Kumho V700's with 34.5 psi in them. Jason claims he was right at 7K and as far as he knows He popped his foot off the best he could.
So later on my last run I needed .3 sec to win the class (just plain drove like crap today) and we were having a real problem getting off the line. So I took it up to 8500 rpm and dropped it. According to witnesses I just sat there roasting the tires. I left a cloud of smoke and the car crept forward at a snails crawl. For anyone who cares I ran the time to win the class and take FTD but I wiggled a cone just a few gates before the finish. So now I'm clueless as to how to get it off the line for the up coming prosolo. 7K= broken tranny, 8.5K = Burn out style launch. I'm afraid to try the grey area in between. I need some words of confidence. Or atleast an explanation of why it bogged at 7K when everything I've been reading says it shouldn't have.

Full tread Victoracers are very heavy, and some say they actually have better longitudinal (straight line) grip than Hoosiers. All this adds up to major launch stresses.
At the Pro Finale (the only one on Kumhos ) I was lauching at about 7500 to break them loose, and putting my foot to the floor almost immediately after launch - the RPMs would plummet as the waves of grip and acceleration came over the car. If only my local dragstip had grip like that, I could've been in the 13's!
For the drivetrain's sake you need to give 'er enough revs on launch to break the tires loose. After that modulate throttle to have as little spinning as possible, all the while keeping revs above 6000 to prevent bogging. Simple, eh?

I've had the same problem. At the event before last I was unable to break the tires loose. This last one I was still spinning up after I had shifted to second. It seems hard to find and in-between and I think it's very surface-dependant as well.

I launch about 7000 RPM with my Kumho's then hold it to the floor after they start spinning for a few seconds. After I get get goig I feather back to get grip. People always giggle when I do this saying that I am showing off....but oh well.
I go through 2 rears for every 1 front, so this year I am going try to be a little easier.
