In my 2.5RS, it was very harsh.
First... unless you're making a TON of power you're not going to get a lot of wheespin. As soon as the clutch hooks up and the tires hook up (both of which happens very quickly) engine and tires are locked together. So you're doing 10mph in first gear. That probably equates to 3000 rpms. That's why the launch sucked. You had to drive that until you were back on boost.
The alternative is the launch on my RS. Slip the piss out of the clutch. I'd rev to 4,000 or so (bottom of powerband) and slip the clutch for a decent distance (to about 20mph) to keep the revs at or above 4k. About the time I finished slipping the clutch, I needed to grab second (first is very short in the 2.5RS.) I could launch with 2.0 60' time with consitency and could launch harder if I needed to by revving higher in the power. It worked, but it was hell on the clutch.
Probably somewhere in between my method and the S2000 method is the correct Evo method. Its got a lot more power than my RS, so you might get more than a chirp out of the tires. Beware of clutch dumps... if you don't get any wheelspin its REALLY hard on parts.
