The closest tracks to my location are each about 5 hours away in various directions. At this point, I have yet to attend a track day because of the time commitment involved. Maybe making a weekend out of it is the norm, and I should just quit whining and go.

So, how far do you travel for track time? For those that do travel a long distance, are you driving your cars, or trailering them?

 

My favorite track is 4 hours away. I drive up the night before, get a cheap room and drive back the next day. I dont trailer my car. Do it once. You'll know after if its something you want to do as frequently as possible or if its not for you.

 

Closest track is 45 mins away but the one i attend the most is 2 hours away

5 is a big commitment and if you have a family it makes it hard. Imagine trailering 7 hours there. But trailer inning is so much easier

 

Buttonwillow, my favorite's about 2.5 hours? There's Autoclub Speedway about 45 minutes away, and Willow Springs about 1.5 miles away, but I don't like those. My second favorite, Las Vegas Motor Speedway Outfield, is about 4 hours, so it can be a rough drive. I drive my car up, I have no tow-capable vehicle.

I'd say making a weekend out of it is the norm. I usually prep my car prior to leaving, then aim to drive up on a Friday night, grab a room from any local Best Western (I'm a member: grab a membership to whatever hotel you frequent, and grab a AAA membership as well, 10% discount on room rates) that way I am rested and ready at 7 AM the next day for the track day. Afterwards, I either grab food and head home, or grab food and head back to my hotel so I can sleep and be ready for the following day's track day.

 

Closet for me is 5 hours too. I trailer the night before but usually come home the last day of the event. I always try to make 2-3 day events because of the distances involved.
Recently home from 9 hour tow and a different 10.5 hour tow, those I drive out at least a day early and spend an extra evening before coming home

 

My favorite track is 45 minutes. Makes for an easy day. I have done 3+ hours but for those I go the night before.

3.5hrs - Chuckwalla (2nd fav. track) [Indio, CA]

5hrs - Streets of Willow / Big Willow [Willowsprings, CA]
5hrs - Firebird raceway [Chandler, AZ]
5hrs - Phoenix International Raceway [Phoenix, AZ]
5hrs - Buttonwillow [Buttonwillow, CA]

6.5hrs - Miller Motorsports (never been cause it's so damn far and nothing nearby, but I hear it's one of the best tracks on the West coast.) [Salt Lake City, UT]

8hrs - Laguna Seca [Monterey, CA]

 

Same.

My local tracks are Loudon, NH (2.5 hours), Lime Rock (1hr), Monticello (2 hours.) For autocross, well, I will trailer as far as 26 hours to Lincoln, Nebraska (FML)
