Hoosier R6 for autocross?
I want to get r compound tyres for autocross but I also wouldn't mind wheels I can use for trackdays too, I can't do both.
I was talking to a guy at my local autocross I was surprised he was using the R6 (take offs) and reckons they work good.
Would I be ok using the R6 for autocross?

A lot of guys bring out cars on track tires to the autocross, but robinson is right, they won't be getting quite as much traction as a dedicated autocross tire.
I did attend one track day that turned into an autocross and I used my NT01s (primarily track tires for me) for both and did fine.

If your trying to win serious events, dont wast your time. If you are just racing for fun, they are great because you will get a ton of life out of them. I used R6 pull-offs on prelude for 1 and 1/2 seasons until I sold the car and they still werent dead. On a 60 second course, I distinctly remember OK traction for ~45 seconds, then suddenly getting a significant jump in grip for the last ~15 seconds... they do take a while to heat up to their operating temp.

You will be okay, just not as fast as A6s. Why not try the NT-01 from Nitto?

I think I was in a similar boat as you (the OP). At the beginning of this season I decided to go with (AP1) 225/245 Toyo R888's for track events and autox. For autox I found I was a lot faster than i was with RE01R's. Went from competitive in street tire to competitive in race tire. Still not as fast as the A6 guys though. And for track, they've held up really nicely. I've had 5 track days and a bunch of autox's on them. Due to uneven wear on one of the tires, I'm cording on 1 side on 1 tire (should have monitored my tire pressures better and/or had them flipped) - but otherwise I probably could have gotten 1 or 2 more track days or a lot more autox out of them. I think the R888's...or any track compound for that matter, will give you a good intro to R-comps. I agree with everyone else - you won't win nationals but you will definitely be faster.
