Default Hooiser R7s vs S100 compound

So I'm assuming DOT vs non-DOT race slick...but google isn't helping me, so I figured I'd ask here:

Does the margin of mechanical grip justify the over $100+ price difference per tire? What is the differences here?

Hoosier Race 235/620-17 S100 43725S100 43725 FREE SHIPPING

vs R7?

vs R7?
I bought a set of the old ones that were the R80 compound that were on close out last year. Dirt cheap. I ran them for the first time a few weeks ago. They don't have the same feel of a R7/A7. Hoosier told me it would take 3 laps to get them up to temp. Apparently I bring a tire up to temp faster cause my 1st hot lap was my fastest and then the tires acted as if I over heated them because they would give up after back to back corners on the same tire. I called hoosier about it and they told me that's a sign of them aging out. At first I didn't like the feel of them compared to the 275/35 A7's I had to compare against. On Data they were the same in the corners. The A7's felt better but I never got a clean lap on the A's. These were 3 seconds faster then the A's BUT I never got a clean lap. On Data it looks like the lap time would have been very close. The interesting thing was the acceleration off the corner was noticably down on the A7's vs these. Clear split in the graph and a loss of 3-4 mph on every straight, I can only guess from the large aero wall of the 275's vs the 235. I'm very bummed that Greg Killed slicks for TT4. I'd rather buy and run slicks. The A7's showed A LOT more wear then these tires did. They looked like they were hardly touched after 8 laps. As far as driving on them, they don't like a lot slip angle and they didn't like a lot of steering input. Slide to much and they just let go, to much steering and they would just give up bad. R7 and A7 you can slide around at will and use a ton of steering and they still work. These don't.

Good info and thanks for the insight! He just killed off non-DOT slicks right? You can still run A/R7s?

A7 and R7 are not slicks. They have a rain groove in them. They are a DOT R-Comp.

I drove RE71R's in the rain on the street and I won't do that again. All Seasons To the track, R comps at the track. The Cali guys all push this idea of racing on street tires cause it never rains there. They could drive A7's to the track.

I don't understand this. I've driven the S2000 on RS3s, Z2s, v12s, RE71Rs, etc all in the rain and none of them felt any more sketchy than the others.
