Default Helmets for Autox/Track Events

What is everyone out there in S2000 land using for helmets for events? I would like to get one, but I don't want to drop $300 on something I wont use more than 5 times a year. I'd appreciate suggestions, prices, and the best places to buy.

Thanks!

Oh are they strict on needing SA helmets versus M?

The M vs SA is dependent on the event. For autox, M is usually acceptable. For track events an SA will probably be required, and at all the track events I've attended, the tech included looking at the helmet tag to make sure it was new enough to be legal.

It depends on who's running the track events ... some will allow M for at least your first few times. There was just recently a group buy offered by Schatten for Bieffe helmets ... I just got mine and it was just a little over $200 (a very good deal for a full-face SA2000-rated helmet). You might want to PM him to see if he can make you a deal.

Don't know about auto-cross. And this is from my (very very limited, one time experience) in California.

M helmets have been fine even for Solo II events (not sure about Pro or National), and DE (driver education) events.

If you are looking for a helmet, check out http://www.graphyte.com/products/safety/ and you can see what I carry. Just PM or email me for pricing though. It'll be worth the inquiry.

Thanks!

that's wierd, when i ran with speedtrial, i ran an M95 last year. maybe it changed. i would (and just did) personally spend the money on a SA2000 full face, even if it is somewhat more pricey. you only have one face and head, right? oh, and i only do 8-12 or so events yearly...

It could be simple marketing but they do have to pass more stringent standards...

SA helmets use the fire retardant nomex lining...they say its more expensive, so they charge more
