Having just dealt with the same issue I opted for a cheap open face helmet for auto x. Most auto x courses don't get above 70mph. When and if I find a track that will allow a b-stock legal S onto the track I will use a full face unit. Closed face was just to hot for sitting in auto x line up.

very true, it was mega hot while waiting. I eventually put the top up with the air on until the very last second.

Think "bird in the face". (asuming you AutoX with the top down. I do.)

These guys had a hard-top, and they still got "messy". I bet they were glad they had full-face helmets.

a race shop owner once told me open face is what he preferred for cars with air bags, claiming if the air bag goes in an accident your neck will be forced down by the airbag resulting in neck damage. Not sure how true this is though. open face must offer some visability advantage though, or rally drivers would all wear closed face helmets (more and more are going to closed now however) seeing as they have alot more dangerous conditions than drivers in other forms of motor racing have for example.

I never understand why people still have this debate. Rather than discussing the various advantages of a full-face, what's the advantage of an open face helmet? Getting to look like a total dork? I suppose it complements really short adidas running shorts and those knee-high socks with the stripes at the top, if that's what you're wearing to the track.

There aren't a lot of pretty girls autocrossing S2000s. Lets keep your face the way it is, ok?

Last year I had a relatively minor frontal collision in which the airbags deployed. I walked away bleeding from my nose and mouth because the airbag smashed my full-face helmet into my face. I don't think I would have been bleeding afterwards had I been wearing a full-face helmet. Then again, I wasn't bleeding profusely or anything; more of a trickle than a gusher.

She might be looking for the type of helmet that doesn't give you "helmet head", I know my wife is still looking for one.
