Thumbs up

How do you guys feel about the weight of a helmet? Do you prefer a lighter unit over a heavier one?

Everyone prefers a lighter helmet. The issue is how much it costs to make one that is light but still meets the safety requirements.

I think there are some open face, M rated, Chinese helmets that are under $100. Check with some of your smaller vendors that come out to autocrosses to sell stuff.

A helmet is not a place to save money, because head injuries can be irreversible.

Get the lightest one you can afford, less strain on the neck in case when shit does happen and you are not wearing a HANS.

I have a Bell SA rated, but I am considering Pyrotect for my next one. They have replacable liners. If you use your helmet very much you will wear out the lining.

Full face all the way. As SkipBarber says, it protects the part of your face that most people look at. If you are going to get a face shot against the chin bar, what do you think it is going to do to your chin? Get a hans or a collar if that worries you.
