Richard,

That's a nice post mortem, but let's face it, I was top up mostly because it's worth 8mph at the end of the straight

On some days, like this one at Laguna Seca, I couldn't resist being top down.
That what I call a racing line!

Yeah, that's my line in GT4 also, but when I actually drove LS, I felt like I was going to bend a wheel or even break a weld in my car the one time I hit that rumble strip! It's really violent.

so do you stay inside of the rumble strip or do you pull a "Clark" and ride the dirt?

(going to LS in 2 weeks)

Oh please, let's not start coining the term "pull a Clark" or people will really start getting confused/concerned.

I stay ON the rumble strip, I wouldn't want to go on the dirt, I did that the first time I went to LS and it really is violent like Rev says.

pantyraider: but rev said the rumble strip itself felt very violent... just trying to see if not riding the strip will be detrimental to getting the best time out of the car/driver combo

Ok, I guess I read it wrong. IMO the rumble strip is not "violent" at all. If you go into the dirt , its bad obviously because it isn't smooth and you don't get mucht traction in the dirt.

What you should ideally do, is make your inital turn in and then aim for the oak tree straight ahead of you. If you do it right, you should be right at the inside edge of the rumble strip.

I believe the rumble strips have all been smoothed out even more for the motoGP bikes now. Compare Clarks picture with the recent one with Rylans car.
