Fried S-02's anyone?
No major damage -- just tires and brakes. No off-track excursions this time (although we really tried on the skidpad). This was at TGPR (Talladega Gran Prix Raceway). It was my fourth time at that track and I was able to drop my best lap time another 0.7 seconds! Previous fastest lap was around 1:17. Now it is 1:16.09. This is in a bone stock 2001 S2K. The tires paid the price for the additional speed. I've never seen tires this chewed up before. It looks like a strip of rubber has been peeled off of the outer edge all the way around the tire.
Got my new tires on Friday, so now I'm ready for my next track day at Barber Motorsports Park in May.

TGP is a fun course. I ran there once back in 2003 when my S2000 was bone stock, too. I was running low 1:16s also, but my tires didn't look nearly as bad as yours (of course, mine probably only had about 1000 miles on them before I got to the track). My brakes were hurting, though... I was on the OEM pads and they felt like they were glazed after about 10 laps.
I'm glad to hear that my times were about right for a stock S2000. I had nothing to compare them to, previously, because the event I went to was primarily Preludes.

Great vid, MXT. You look very smooth around the track. I've got lots of TGPR video too, but no where to host it. My vids show me hitting the rev limiter at the end of the front straight, back straight, and entering the final curve (after the banked sweeper). I seem to hit 93 mph about a half a second before needing to start braking. No time to shift into fourth, and I'd just have to shift back into third or second as soon as I started braking anyway, so I just let it bounce off the limiter a couple of times. Thanks for sharing. I too was wondering how 1:16 compared to other S2Ks on the track.

I'm surprised that your lap times aren't faster (or that mine aren't slower), since you were hitting the rev-limiter on pretty much every straightaway. I only hit it a couple of times on the back straight, but never on the front straight or the straight after the back sweeper.

That's about normal for a day's worth of abuse at TGPR on S02's. I'm guessing the tires had a decent amount of wear before the track day. I've got a set that looks quite similar. TGPR is pretty abrasive on street tires,as it hasn't been resurfaced in awhile.
If you're trashing S02's in a day, you may want to consider stepping up to a r-compound.
