The five levels of suspension tuning
As I see it here are the 5 levels of suspension tuning. I think I been to them all.... Comentary added...
Level One = Springs
(Too many to list)
Hey I want to get better handling, but have no money. I also want to look dope with the car lowered 2". Hey why does this car handle and ride like crap?
We all started out this way on some car in the past, right?
Level Two = Springs and Shocks (Probably Koni's)
(Koni, KYB, GAB, Tokiko, etc..)
Hey, these springs suck. Lets add some better shocks. I think I must have blown out my shocks. Hmmm, most of the autocross guys I see are using Konis, lets go with them... Hey this still rides like crap, but now I can adjust something. Hey this is fun, and I can add a Koni sticker to my car.
Been there, done that (except for the sticker)...
Level Three = Single Adjustable Coilovers
(H&R, Bilstein, JIC, Tein, etc...)
Ok, I'm done messing around with this crap. I've graduated college and can afford something better. My level 2 system is hitting the bump stops, and rides like crap. Beside the guys wo track their cars laughed at me. Lets get something engineered that works. Wow, I think I've actually improved my lap times over stock. Rides better than level two also. Maybe there is something to these better systems? Oh crap why is that JIC leaking... again....and again....and again....
Level Four = Multi-adjustable Coilovers (dual and above)
(KW, Tein, etc...)
OK, lets see if we can really dial this in and improve our lap times. I know the JRZ/Penske/Moton/Ohlins are great, but I don't want to spend that much... Lets see what I can buy for a bit less. (or) Hey, This isn't a dedicated racecar, no way I spending 6K on coilovers. Drools over level 5 though... Probably the fist level that makes any sense on the S2000.
Level Five = Race coilovers
(Penske, JRZ, Moton, Ohlins, etc...)
Ok, I've spent this much on levels 1-4, if I had gone here first I would be ahead cash wize. Ok, yea they need to be rebuilt every 12-18 months, but with all this adjustablity they can ride better, handle better, and just plain look cool. (racer bling) Oh, I can also adjust them into a handling nightmare, woops. Where is that manual again? I better go to a couple test days and figure these things out.

Level 5 and proud. If you're having trouble figuring out which dial to turn and which way to turn it, try this little tool I made last year...

This should be stickied so ricers stop asking about their cusco sway bars matched to their ricetastic 3" drop lowering springs. And where they can buy a camber kit to fix the snap oversteer on their ap2.
