First timer at the track
Hi all,
So i'll be hitting the go fast crack pipe for the first time on a track at Laguna Seca.
In order to get the car ready for the track I understand i'll need a couple of things from reading previous posts:
1) Brake pads: I have stock pads right now, which i'll swap out a couple of days before hand for either Cobalt GT or Porterfield R4's. I have stock rotors so which one would be better for the track? Also, why is the GoFastLab out of stock on all the Cobalt pads?
2) Brake fluid: ATE Blue for the brake fluid? Seems like that's the way to go from reading other posts. Any others that I should consider?
3) Helmet: My bro in law gave me his Shoei RF-1000 full face motorcycle helmet that fits me perfectly. I'm assuming this should be ok for the track correct?
4) Tires: I just got some new RE050A's (225/40/18 & 255/35/18's) should these be ok for my first time? I don't have my stock 16's but if I decide to track the car more i'll have to pick up a spare set and slap some track tires on them.
umm...i think that's about it. Any other tips or tricks for a first timer?
I've requested an instructor for the track already as I want to make sure i'm doing everything right and not to endanger others.
Thanks all! Looking forward to the gofast crackpipe!

3) Check with whoever is putting on the track day. Everybody's requirements are different. But you probably need to know the Snell rating for the helmet (eg. M2000). Most track day orgs accept Snell "M" helmets, but most of them require the helmets to be reasonably new. In general, M2000 should be OK. Some will still allow M95. Others could possibly require a 2005 or an SA cert.

1) Cobalt Friction is changing their compounds and will be shipping new products "soon". DO NOT use Porterfield R4 pads for your first track day. They are race-only pads that will really suck on the street and are not particularly rotor-friendly.
The R4S pad is the one you want to use.
