Pleeease read the FAQ for this forum, https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=520674

You will find good info in there regarding you first day at the track as well as what to do regarding brakes.

I agree with Zdan. Just slap them on there and bed them.

Speaking only for myself, I've never had any issues just throwing HP+, XP8', or XP10 pads in the calipers, without replacing, resurfacing or even cleaning the rotors.
I think this is part of the reason why some of the guys in here say that XP10's aren't as effective as stock pads while cold. They recommend a rotor change with every pad change.

Well, it IS a track pad and not really intended to be a DD pad (though I DD on them). I change rotors once a year so, higher wear levels don't really matter to me. They work best after they've been bedded though, they'll eventually bed from normal driving. I tend to go out and engage the ABS a number of times after I install pads to get them hot. Not quite the bedding procedure that Carbo recommends but, a little like that.

Yeah, they also recommend the correct bedding procedure to ensure proper performance. That's why I just buy them pre-bedded.

It's not clear to me what wear rate I'm going to get on the '2k. On the suby, I'd probably go through 3-4 sets of pads before I switched rotors. So, any kind of pre-bedding was pointless. I'm hoping the pads last longer now. My buddy has a '2k killing civic he tracks (I built it). He can do a whole track season on a single set of pads. He does have "Legend" brakes though which are bigger I believe than the S2K brakes.

Thunderbolt or Lightning? Get Carbotech's... on my first time on Lightning (only third HPDE overall) I had horrible pad fade flying down the front straight going into turn 1. Thunderbolt will do the same thing to OEM pads, just that I didn't experience an "oh crap" moment because I knew to sandbag it going down the front straight.

I resurface rotors if the thickness measures out to be safe. I typically go through 3-4 pads per rotor before they need to be replaced. If you are ditching the rotors every set then I might be interested in your old ones

Really? Lightning is the easiest on brakes track I've been to. If you were getting fade into turn 1, then you're braking too much

I don't believe in resurfacing myself. If a rotor needs to be re-surfaced, I replace it. My main fear on track is equipment failure at 130 mph (well that and someone dropping fluid in front of me). I'm pretty pro-active about replacing anything that even looks iffy. For example with heat crazing, if I can catch my fingernail on it, I normally consider rotor replacement.

For track use, you can't take any chances.
