Am I the only one who is a little concerned that the ZII star spec will be even worse at handling heat than the ZII? It will certainly make a better street tire and cold weather track and autox tire, but its not looking like a good summer track day option if the thermal images are any indication.
Try using the CC option with translations.

Just because the tire is hotter does not mean it will grip less. They could have changed the compound to like a higher heat range and made them softer to get there faster. We wont know until we actually get them though...
I see what you mean. I just think its funny that the goal of the star spec compound seems to be quicker warm up when the ZII is already exceptional in this regard, IMO. Even at 60*F they were ready to go after the out lap driving at 6/10ths. Their first or second lap were typically the fastest for me and they would start dropping off a little after that. Also, not that many of us care too much about getting the best wear from tires, but I would be surprised if these don't wear faster than the ZII. Either way Ill want a set since, like you mentioned, you don't know for certain until you try it.

I base my speculation off the testing Ive done with the RE-11 and RE-11A. The RE-11A heats up faster and provides a little more overall grip but it also wears a little faster and doesn't seem to handle heat as well as the original RE-11. I could be very wrong (I hope I am) but if I had to guess, I would think the ZII vs ZII SS will follow a similar trend.
I find it unlikely we'd have another R1R or RE-01R where we have to start spraying the tire below ambient before heading out. The difference in heat-up is quite considerable between the ZII and the ZII* though. They claim faster light-off with higher overall grip so there is hope.

So i have done 2 track days (big track) on these tyres and they are terrible. I find them consistent at being inconsistent and confidence stealing. The lower the psi i go in the tyre the better they feel but the slower i go. The higher the psi, the worse they feel and my times improve ever so slightly. However, they are quiet to drive on, usually consistently slow and look cool. Im going to head back to RS3's or try the AD08R's. Hell i would even go back to the RSR federals over these.
