Someone else mentioned Formula cars, those are dog-ring engagement boxes
A Formula Ford is completely different from a streetcar. Comparing a Formula Ford, or any other race car for that matter is like comparing apples and oranges. Formula Fords have gears that are constantly meshed which are selected via shift forks and dog rings.

and the clutch is simply not necessary in them.
I disagree with this statement.

Bottom line, it's ok for street use, But for track driving, upshifts are too slow and downshifts too inconsistent to be the method of choice.
If you don't recommend clutchless shifting on the track, why would you recommend someone do it on the street

and will save clutch wear and potentially save on synchro wear if done right.
Not hardly, not even close.

In regards to race cars with constant mesh gearboxes, it is up to the driver to decide whether or not to left foot brake. (clutchless up and down shift's) When I raced Formula Mazda, I preferred the traditional heel/toe method. The fact is, most of the drivers used the heel/toe method. There were very few drivers that actually left foot braked. (clutchless up and down shifts)

A constant mesh gear box can be easily up shifted without using the clutch and can be done much faster than pushing the clutch pedal in. Downshifting is another story. Like I say, there were very few people that could perform clutchless down shifts. (left foot brake) The only time they used the clutch, was when they rolled out of the pits.

I couldn't even barely move my bloody leg from one side of the footbox to the other. I actually tried left foot braking a few time's, but with the limited amount of seat time I had, I stuck with the heel/toe method. Yes, I got some grinds out of the dog rings
