Sucks but True... One reason I refuse to watch most "pro" races. Would you watch an NBA game if you knew they were just rich guys paying to rent the Arena for the evening?
I've had a few discussions with buddies who have run some grand-am stuff about this. One common comment is there has to be away to get the rich guys out and make it talent based again. One idea was make prize money actually worth winning. Right now prize money won't cover the costs it's gonna cost you to win.

I won't say that I was 'in the biz,' but I personally knew several CART teams for a while from 2000-2005.
The thing that I couldn't stand was....Money talks. And the entire industry, including the teams, turned strictly business. The true essense of 'racing' was almost like a side-effect of making high-priced business deals.

wow, i had no idea that was how it worked. I thought it was more like other professional sports, where the best are highly sought after and get paid based on performance. Who knew it was just a rich kids club...
No wonder movie stars like Patrick Dempsey can transfer into things like this.
