Default Chumpcar Racing

I have been doing HPDE for 10 years, finally did some wheel to wheel Endurance racing. For any of you who have not heard of ChumpCar, look it up. Its so much fun and they go everywhere, but certainly a mechanics league. I could not believe how resorceful these guys are and dedicated to keeping a car on track until finish.

Nothing like going wheel to wheel in a car you don't really care about

So, 500 bucks for the car... 1500 for the safety equipment?

you see everything there. The stories of how folks acquired cars is funny. There are a number of cars clearly valued over 500 (porsche 944, miata's) they get penalty laps. But the racing is fantastic. We were given 7 penalty laps. We had a BMW 540 (with the famous nickalsil motor recall) we were dumping 2.5 qts oil an hour into it. Thats no way to win an endurance race. We had plenty of power but the know us and our car is very thirsty. We used over 10 gallons of oil and got the "friends of BP award".

I think this is a little more dedicated to racing where Lemons (I am told by participants) is a freak show. Can be way too many cars on track, they will cover your suit with honey and feathers if you do something stupid, etc......... This was 7 hours of racing (driver must change at a max of 2 hours). Had some wine and bratwursts that night, everybody wrenching there car for Sunday. Sunday is another 7 hour race.

I will be running 24 hours of Chump Car at SOW early April.

Chump do run a "real" 24 hours, unlike Lemon
