If the code is on, he's likely needing a replacement sensor whether he replaces the cat or gets a test pipe.

I just destroyed the second cat this year. The first one blew apart and crushed the O2 sensor. I haven't gotten this one off the car yet, but I definitely hear the death rattle again. I didn't notice a drop in power with this one, but I did notice a little with the last one. As far as I know, there was no damage caused by the cats failing.
