Align the "cross" 90 vertical to the caliper face so the pad pin slides in.

do i need to put in the backing plates? i only use those with my oem pads on the street

I try to flip my pads more often so the wear isn't that far off.

It's the caliper deflecting not the rotor. Those tiny bolts don't do much against rotor forces

Which tiny bolts? I was talking about a sticky pin that prevents release of the pad from the rotor after braking. Are you talking slider bolts or retaining rotor screws (which I don't bother using).

Let's be clear on terminology. Backing plate is a thick steel where the brake pads material adhere to. Shim is the thin metal piece that usually come with street pads.

Most people don't run shims on track pads unless titanium for heat shielding.

I am talking about the bolts that attach the caliper to the slide pins. There is a ton of play there.

I believe that is where most of the flex will happen

I greased my pins often and it slides good and the pads still wear slightly off
