I had a brand new set of xp12s installed front and rear. The fronts are wearing out ok but the rears especially the left side are wearing uneven. the top part is wearing more than the bottom part by a noticable amount and both rears seem to show alot more wear than the fronts. After 7 sessions the rears are down to 50 percent. What could be the reason for this?

ABS. Your rear pad may be too aggressive. What tire stagger are you running?

In general, the fronts on this car take a 2-3 range upgrade over the rear. Like an XP12 front and 10 rear or XP10/8. On Hoosiers, I have done XP20 front and XP10 rear.

On our Civic, we did a bajillion range upgrade since basically the car will stand on its nose. I used DTC-70s front and HT-10s rear on that car and still wore fronts 5 sets to one....

If you run a really aggressive rear pad, you'll basically be relying on your rear (small) pads to slow you down. Lube your slider pins too.

I run no stagger which explains the wear then. what are the slider pins?

With a square tire setup, I might thing about increasing pad up front.

Slider pins are the bolts that allow the caliper lateral movement. The ones in the rubber boots.
Also grease the ears of the pads so they don't stick in the shims. If the pad gets "hung up" it can cause uneven lad wear too. Some cars just wear pads unevenly, but the S2000 is usually pretty good.

thanks for the advise. I would hear a very very loud noise from the rear pads every time i got in reverse. hopefylly the grease on the pins will help

I flip my pads every so often. I have ground the nubs off so I can flip anyway

I run xp10 front xp8 back. I also see very uneven wear both inside to outside and top of pad to bottom of pad. I assume the uneven wear is due to the rotor warping or "dishing" under excessive heat. We *really* need a better solution for rear brakes. Somebody needs to create a kit similar to the RB one at about half their price.

On our Civic I cracked pads flipping them due to the way the caliper pressure is distributed so YMMV.

I also see people who installed the rear pads wrong. There is a pin in the backing plate that need to go in the middle of the piston slot. I've seen people who mistakenly not align the slots on the piston on the rear caliper. Check that first.

i burned through a rear pad set of Hawk HP+ in less than a month because of this. Never going to make that mistake again.
