Default Carbotech x10/x8

Hey guys,

plan on getting carbotech x10 front, x8 rears. (is there any other pads you guys recommend, similar price range?)

do you think it's ok to just swap them out on my stock rotors (my car has 150k miles/ never switched rotors, lota freeway miles)? Currently I just have oem pads on stock rotors.

How hard do you think it is for first timer to switch pads by myself?

thanks

best is to swap rotors. get rotors that are specific for these pads.

changing pads and rotors is easy

$30 from NAPA. "Centric."

If you're planning on tracking, I'd get new rotors. You'd hate to get to the track and lose your sessions because you ran out of rotor.

Don't forget a good brake bleed with high temp DOT 4 fluid, too.

I had never done any wrenching before the S2000. I did my first set of brakes and rotors with a friend for moral support. There are "tips" that make it much easier so see if someone will walk it through with you. But super easy.

At 150k, the set screws are probably rusted so you'll need an impact screwdriver.

I run these. You'll love them. Definitely get specific rotors for these. You can get away with changing pads from Carbotech to OEM, but not recommended.

Are you in the inland empire? If so, I can help you change out your brakes.

Alternatively, show up early to the track and I can help you there if I'm at that particular event

I'm switching to BBK soon, I have a complete set of brand new rotors and barely used XP10/XP8 that I'll probably be selling if you're interested. Let me know.

What made you chose the XP10/8 combo? To be honest, I hated the Carbotech's, and I will never purchase their pads again. I went through 2 sets this season. I started off with XP10/8's, and the front's lasted around 2 hours of track time. The pads were worn right to the backing plates. The backing plates on both inner pads actually bent. After speaking directly with Carbotech, I decided to give them another shot... Stepped up to the XP12/XP10's, with the pre-bedded option. Those lasted me around 2.5 hours of track time. This is totally unacceptable in my books, especially given that I am running street tires (215/245 RE-11's). Also, the pedal feel sucked. It is quite a "squishy" pad, and I did not like the pedal feel at all. I would recommend spending your money elsewhere. If you are looking for a street-track pad, try giving the Endless MX72's a shot, or maybe Pagid Orange. When it comes to pads, I've found that you get what you pay for. If you're just getting into lapping with the S2000, stick with the OEM Akebono's on your first few events, and then make your decision from there. Just my $.02.
