Broken Divider Spring Perch on KWV3

I was very close to doing AST 4150's, but it seemed KW's would last longer between rebuilds, and of course I liked the idea of control over both compression and rebound. I also couldn't get a straight answer from AST on what spring rate the non-adjustable compression was IDEAL for. Sure, you can run the same compression with a variety of springs, but there is still an ideal rate for the setting. Compression force helps keep unnecessary energy out of the spring.
For me it came down to: I can pay much more for a single adjustable shock that will also require frequent rebuilds, or I can pay less for a durable double adjustable shock. Furthermore, the piggyback reservoirs on KW's allow for a shorter shock body and more bump travel, which is always nice when lowered. All reasons I eventually got over my monotube/twin-tube hang up & just went KWV3's. I felt like the biggest negative was the lower spring rate compared the Clubsports, so I fixed that. Was tempted to add extended top hats with spherical bearings and still might if the underbody go-pro reveals too much time on the bumpstops. But if that's happening with KW's, I imagine it would be worse with AST's, which don't have the piggyback reservoir.

I've owned both and the ASTs shock body in the rear (which is where the travel always seems to be the biggest issue) is only 1/8" longer than the KW. That's still something but not much.
Both are good though.
