I personally find my braking feel to be much better with improved initial bite. That is the primary reason I run aftermarket pads for autocrossing. I agree the stock pads have sufficient grip to lock up the tires, but the difference in initial bite is frightening when you go back to stock pads after having used better.

I agree with Tony. The pedal feel is completely different (better) with the higher performance compounds. Obviously there's little need to go to a full-out track compound for auto-x as you'll never get enough heat into them but a "hot street" pad should work well.

Anyone have an opinion of akebono ceramic pads? A friend can supply them to me at a decent price. The manufacturer claims low dust and noise, and improved braking over OEM. This should be a good street/autocross pad...

At Laguna Seca, I had Performance Friction #01 on the front Rick Hesel's 1st gen BrakeMan front brake system, and BrakeMan #3 on the back Wave rotors. At Buttonwillow, the next SV event for me, I had the same except Panther Plus in back. I found much less front abs action with the latter setup and seemingly better stopping power, all with stock S2K tires. The P+s did not have the charred look the #3s did after the BW track session, though of course the tracks are different, with higher speeds before braking at LS. I think for track events, I'll stay with P+ or even XPs on the back if they are available.

I used the pads last year for street and track. Great bite and no fade. They work well on the street even cold. They make way more dust than stock and mine squeal slightly.
Two instructors have driven my car and both remarked on how much they liked the brakes.
I also use Motul Fluid.

This is a little off the subject, but what is everyone running now?
I am running Pather + up front and in back. I liked them last year. They had good bite and pretty good fade resitance. I did notice some fade (i was on street tries too), but that is probably because I was on the brakes too much. I am going to run them till they are done and then I'm thinking of the Cobalt GTR/ITR's or Panther XP's. Any comments? (Oh i am running RA1's this track season)

I currently swear by the Hawk HT10. But, i've tried the GTR/ITR in Ry's car and they feel great without any noticible fade on 15minutes sessions. I'm still trying to kill my first set of HT10s after about a dozen track days and 3 races.

I still recommend either of the cobalt compounds

Yeah but you have monster brakes. I bet the HT10s will last you all year w/ your rotors and calipers.
