brake pads for auto-x?

Stock work fine. There is no need bring them up to temp before they can stop the car!
The only reasons you would need to swap out brake pads is for higher heat tolerance (think runnings laps at road course) or if you needed additional torque to stop the wheels. If you can lock up the breaks with your stock pads, you shouldn't have any need.
Then again, if you can get your brakes glowing at the end of a 60 second Autox course, you might need to use the brakes a little less.

I run AutoX and the odd track day. On the track the stock pads do start to fade. I currently have EBC green pads installed. (About 1.5 months) More bite than stock. Good on the street and AutoX. Next track day is late March. No rotor problems to date.

I like the progressive nature of stock pads for autocrossing. Porterfield R4S pads offer greater initial bite and still work well at low temps. I've found Brakeman #3s to lie between the Porterfields and OEM pads, offering greater initital bite than OEM and more progressive action than the Porterfields.
