235/40 & 255/40 on stock wheels with no rubbing issues. stock height, stock alignment, hell, it only has 1000 miles.
I'll second this; although there is rubbing in the front, it is likely from another tire.

Anyone have experience running 225 up front and 255 in the rear? Is the handling balance upset by too much grip in the back (i.e., turns the s2k into an understeering WRX pig)? Not trying to thread jack, thought this would also help the OP with his decision.

thanks that's wat i really wanted to know from this thread

besides the rubbing issue, i wanted to know advantage and disadvantage of having 225 or 235 in the front. I did 1:34.101 @ the sow last time when my car was stock(stock tire and stock suspension) with passenger and top down. Im looking forward to reduce at least full second or two with new tire set up and more aggressive alignment. not to mention im not gonna allow any passengers and close my top

Just autocrossed with 225's up front and 255's in the back on stock ap2 rims/suspension and it felt fine. It was wet out so I plow because I'd go into corners too hot at times, but overall it felt a little more stable.

today i heard 235 is too big for ap2 stock front wheel since it's only 7inch wide. my friend said sidewall is not gonna be stiff enough due to sidewall being sticking out of the rim

is it true?

your friend is an idiot. the fast national ap1's run 245's, although in hoosiers, on a 6.5 wheel. yesterday, i annilated my class with 235 toyos up front.

A 235 will be slightly pinched, but this size has short sidewalls and most performance tires are fairly stiff. I have no problems with this setup.

BTW, the 245 Hoosiers on the stock AP1 rims are pinched (very noticeable with the front 6.5 inch wide rim), but have very stiff sidewalls and does not become too 'floppy'.

I've run 245 and 235 on AP2 fronts with no issues, both pinched for sure, more so the 245s, and just posted a good lap time on the 235s.
