Default Best Autocross Street Tire Sizes

I'm looking for some autocross tires I could fit on the stock rims. I've had good experience with Azenis but they don't seem to have anything in a size that I would want to run.

Is there anything available for something comparable to the Azenis in 225/50R16 and 245/45R16?

Or even wider? Other than V710s what tires and sizes are people running?

The Hankook RS-2 Z212 comes in those exact sizes, and that would definitely be a worthy substitute if you can't get Azenis. Cheaper, too.

I'm using the Bridgestone RE01R in 205/225 sizes. They seem to be able to compete with the Azenis quite well but do cost more...

The hankooks blow to put it bluntly. Here's what I would do and it's pretty funny but I really think it would be amazing.

Use the stock 225 S02s on front and rear and crank up the front sway bar stiffness. I think if you are looking for street tire performance this combo could not be beat. I may even do this the next time I buy street tires.

I like your style, Matt. How've you been?

What don't you like about the Hankooks? I'm in a bind right now of where I'm going to go for street tires. I've been satisfied running 225/245 712's as disposable street tires. They're not being made anymore and the SPT, which replaced them, don't come in any sizes that excite me either. That leaves me with MX's and Hankooks, and I was leaning towards the Hankooks because of sizes and price. Think that's a bad call? Again, I'm not looking to spend a load on street tires since I put a bunch of miles on the car and have the R-comps for autocrossing.

Better ideas for a budget?

Hey Garrett, I've been great. Come visit us in Atlanta!

As a street tire the Hankooks are OK and I'm actually on my third set now so... But I am pretty much over them. They just make the S feel like a crappier car. The car's turn in is about .5 seconds after your hands move especially at speed like on an interstate. That's just not right and it's disservice to the car but I guess you might be used to that running the 712s. They last a hair longer than the S02s and they work very well in the rain. I mean, my last set was corded and I could still drive faster in the rain than on half dead S02s! I couldn't wrap my brain around that one.

Try 'em out for yourself. At least you won't be out a lot of money. They get better when they wear down too.

Here's something that's rather telling: back when I was running S02s as daily tires, I would switch to the 710s and think there were soft in the sidewall. Now that I'm on the hankooks daily, the 710's feel stiff! Yeah, that's pretty sad. I'm seriously considering trying out the S02's front and rear.

Yo, I'd like to get back to Atlanta sometime. I've been helping a lot more in the SCR events, basically becoming a co-chair, so I don't venture out as much now that our events take so much out of me. I did sign the keep-Gwinnett petition though. Hope that works out for y'all.

Interesting that you're so rough on the Hankooks. Makes me think I should just go to MX's. Maybe I'll do 225 MX's all around. They don't really have the stiffest of sidewalls either though.

If you're going to try 225's all around, get the Azenis -- 225/50/16's are $108 each. I very nearly did that instead of ordering my last set of Hankooks.
