Is there no way to remove the center caps without removing the wheels first. I've tried to remove them with a flat head screw driver, but all I did was put a dent on the side of the cap.
Any help or tip will be appreciated.

I agree, they're made of some very heat tolerant material. They didn't melt on me and I've never heard of anyone melting them.
I left them on once when my wheel temps were extremely high. 400 degrees by the time I returned to the paddock and probably much higher on the track. So hot that the plastic air valve covers were too hot to touch.

Just a word of warning, NSX owners have had their center caps melt at the track. Apparently it makes a pretty nasty mess. I don't know if they are different materials or not, but I wasn't willing to take a chance. I've had good luck getting the caps off with a wooden chopstick, although you still have to be careful not to dent the plastic.
I agree that for AutoX it should be fine to leave them on - no chance of getting hot enough to melt, and if by some freak chance one did fly off, it only weighs about two ounces.

Only reason I've heard of people having to remove the center caps at AutoX is because they covered the lug nuts (corvettes) and they had to prove that they had all lugs on.

correct wes. I had to remove them on my old mustang, even though they were of metallic material. I dont see a problem with leaving em on for now. might want to ask the threesome if they've ever had any problems with running them on. I wouldn't think, because of the limited time on the autox courses, that the center caps could generate that much heat that they would melt. now a DE event at a road course I can see that, but not in 3-4 90 second runs during the course of a few hours.

No trouble with three S2K's running a two day school on the grippiest concrete surface imaginable. And we got the tires & brakes HOT. Treadlife on those poor S02's is another story. I think I saw chunks of rubber flying off on skid pad exercises.
