APEXi VAFC
I installed an APEXi VAFC in my S.
I went to a tuner shop and had the car dyno tuned. When I left the tuner shop, the engine would die at 4k RPMs. It appears that the tech adjusted the VTEC point and the engine... well just ran like crap! I reset the VAFC and all is well now.
Question is...
Can a VAFC give our S engine some performance enhancements, or is the VAFC just not for the S?
Should I just shit-can the VAFC? Or, is there something that can be brought to the engine's performance by installing one?
Word?

It can give some good gains especially on the 00-01 cars as they ran very rich at higher rpms.
I would recommend a different tuner...very surprised a tuner would give the car back that ran poorly.

... Well yes...
I don't believe that the tech reset the "system" after making changes. When the engine was turned off for a bit and handed over to me without any gains... as he said... I had the misfortune of driving home in a car that would shut off at 4kRPM. The tech believes that I installed the VAFC wrong, but I double-checked all wires and don't believe the install to be the case. After VAFC reset, the engine is fine. I've done two track events with a null VAFC.
Should I persue a tune with a VAFC, or just rip it out all-together?

when you reset the vafc2 you erased what your tuner effed up... now you're not running a tune at all. Do like they say and check your region for a recommended tuner.
As for performance, I had a vafc2 and didn't notice much, it did smooth out my powerband so vtec engagement was less noticeable.. Ended up getting rid of it.

... well, I'm not going to go that far yet. Perhaps there was a procedural error on their part, and there still remains a thorough wiring check... althought I have 99.99% confidence that the wiring is right.
I'm going to remove the VAFC, re-connect all wires to original, and buy an approved wiring harness so that the VAFC can be inserted without disrupting the original wiring. I'll then go to one of the other tuners suggested earlier in the thread and hopefully get some money's worth out of the VAFC install.
The S has splendid handling, I just would like to have a bit more umfff exiting some corners and get up to speed quicker.
