AP1 for NASA TT

AP1 for NASA TT
Sorry for the redundancy, but i'm looking for a second vehicle to prep for TT. It seems the CR i own is at a disadvantage points wise because of the stock aero bits, and if i'm gonna run with a wing, i'd rather have something fully functional like a J's that's adjustable. The base class of TTC +14 for the CR doesn't seem worth it.
Anyway, i've been looking into a TTE Miata, but the AP1's are getting cheap enough now that the budget might allow it, and obviously i'd prefer to track another S.
So can an AP1 compete? any advantages? TTD +14 seems to have wiggle room for some nice mods. I don't know a whole lot about AP1s so any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

It depends what you mean by competitive. What class do you want to be competitive in? Competitive nationally? regionally?
I think the AP1 is competitive in TT-D and the AP2 competitive in TT-C. Once you do modifications that bump you in to B, you're against cars with more torque and any modifications to the engine come at great expense points wise, and little reward power wise. In this class, the E36 is very competitive (winning nationals last year). I think a 06-09 would be the most competitive avenue in TT-B due to the slight power advantage and no points for ECU reflash. I currently race a 04 S2000 in TT-B and find it difficult to keep up with the E36, especially on higher speed tracks. I am planning to make some changes next year, including changing to the 06-09.
Keep in mind the new hard top requirements for S2000 (stock no points, Mugen / Mugen style lots of points).
regards,
