Anyone put a fuel cell in the S?
I am building a locost with the S being my donor car, and I am looking into how I am going to run the fuel system. I need to run a fuel cell for the car.
The issue here seems to be the emissions control EVAP systems under the fuel tank. I have all of the sensors unplugged, but I was was wondering if I will be alright simply removing the whole EVAP system.
Has anyone installed a fuel cell for their race car, or removed the EVAP system to save weight?
Also for the air pump. I can remove the air pump from harness and the car works and runs fine, but a CEL is thrown. Anyone know a way to bypass the sensor so that a CEL is not thrown?
I don't have to worry about passing emissions, so I am looking to remove all of the emissions control devices, which I assume the guys who fully cage their car, as is some room for weight removal.

I don't want the car to throw a CEL for the emissions controls, as I want to be able to tell if I am throwing a CEL for something else and know if there is actually a serious issue with the car.

CEL is all about emissions. The fact that it throws a code during serious engine failures is a fallout. What failures are you worried about? Maybe you can just monitor them directly?

Alright, thanks for the suggestions. I will just ignore the codes for now, and get a code reader to make sure that nothing else is wrong.
I will try to see if I can find a way to bypass the sensors also, but the manuals are lacking in this area

Get a code reader from Sears....you can check for bad codes inbetween sessions. Really bad codes and the CEL will blink...
that is required on all 96+OBDII cars and trucks under 8500 or 9500 GVWR....
on subject:
i dont really know why you would care about the cel anyways if it's a track only car and you dont need all that extra wiring etc in that loom...but i do see some reasons...
to know when you have a
1)misfire
or
2)ignition problems
all of those things, and whatever else may come up with a scan tool will be just the same thing as you knowing what knock is and a missing cylinder. i would think you would know what that stuff is if you are undertaking this project...
