I've never been to a HPDE event. How crowded is it and do you get a decent amount of runs when compared to speedventures.net?

Not me, but I and a few others should be at the SV event a week later: http://www.speedventures.net/4-15-2005_event.asp

Rickdogg, NASA gives you four sessions/day of 20 min max per session, so not much. They give good instruction and download sessions too, but not nearly as much track time. I also don't think they do timing unless you are in the Time Trial/HPDE 4 (advanced, with required safety stuff etc.)

I will be there running in Group 4. No additional equipment is required to run Group 4, but not something you really need to worry about for some time. You will not get as much track time as SV, but they do have fairly decent instructors which is more important for someone just starting out. Plus, I like to be able to watch real race cars go at it in between sessions. I will be pitted next to the Honda Challenge guys, so if you decided to come out, stop by and say hi.

That particular NASA event is a when both the NorCal and SoCal NASA Groups meet - so it is extremely crowded schedule-wise, and if anything goes wrong during any of the race groups, my experience has been that they will take the time away from the HPDE groups. So ... where you're supposed to get 4x20 mins, it's likely that won't really be the case. Plus, I think it's $160 - plus $35 annual membership if you aren't already a member. Not sure what they charge for instructors, if anything extra, as I haven't done instruction with them, just a couple of HPDE events.
Yes, their instruction/education/feedback loop is good - but you definitely don't get the amount of seat time you'll get at Speedventures. If you're interested in watching races and seeing a lot of different types of cars - it's worth going.

Nasa gives a substantial discount if you book for the second day. I think both days was only $225-$250. There is no additional fee for having an instructor. As s2k_redhead said, this is a crossover event for some of the race groups, so the schedule will definately be tight.
