Default 235/275 vs. 235/255

I am in the market for new tires. Looking at RA-1s....

For those that have tried it, which would be faster:

F 235/45/17 and R 275/40/17

OR

F 235/45/17 and R 255/40/17

What do you guys think????

THanks!

i have been leary of the 275/40/17 due to the height being about 4-5% more than stock so the gearing would be changed....

.....255/40/17 is about the same as stock....

the extra .75 to 1" of width more than trumps a little less gearing.

I actually ordered the 245/45/17 and 275/40/17 Nitto NT-01 the other day.

I am mounting them on CE28N 17x7 1/2 and 17 x 9. Running Tein SRCs. Excited to see how they do.

Fenders will rub unless they are rolled. They rub even with the 235/275 RA1's on CE28N's, though not badly but the front liners for sure. Careful the metal tab for the front liners doesn't cut the tire. Possibly okay if you are running very stiff suspension and at least -3* camber, but I doubt it. Let us know how they fit and work.

Just curious, but with tires as wide as 275s out back, why not drop aspect ratio to 35? Would that not fix issues with gearing/tire height?

RA1's come in 275/40-17 size, but not 275/35-17.

and the NT-01s don't come that size either. I have already pushed the metal tabs up high in the front with the liner zip tied to the tabs. The rear I am going to roll. We'll see. I think with the 16k SRCs I may be able to get away with it.
