They improved it and came out with the C51 and C71 compound. Later on C91 compound.

They are not as fast as the newer compound IMO. I've ran the old compound, but not TD.
Ok, that makes sense. Now if only Hankook would put out a contingency for NASA...

They did for Nationals last year, but nothing on the regional level.

It probably comes down to how wide the 235 vs 245 Maxxis actually is.
There is no 245 width Maxxis RC1. I keep hoping they will come out with one because 245 to 255 is a point hit in TT3-TT1.
Sorry, meant 235 to 255! Though I wasn't really sure which sizes they made, regardless I should probably figure these things out for myself, given the attractive contingency.

While my main setup will be TTC* with 225 R7's, I'm trying to decide on my maxxis rc1 setup (for contingency and non-competitive events).

All options re on 17x9's

Option 1) TTC* 222hp @ 2775 lbs and 235/40/17 (1 point to spare)
Option 2) TTC 220hp @ 2830 lbs and 255/40/17 (4 points to spare)
Option 3) TTC 220hp @ 2830 lbs and 275/40/17

Thoughts? Option 2 is on there, even with 4 points to spare, because I still can't figure out if 275 is going to be better on a 17x9 rim than a 255. Price isn't an issue since the cost differential is minimal. Just worried about tire pinching slowing me down
Pat, I was thinking of a similar setup to #1 (but with the lower weight and power of the AP1) with 235 NT01s. I don't think the 275 on 17x9 is going to do you any good (does these even fit under your fenders?) and 4 points seems like a lot to leave on the table. It probably comes down to how wide the 235 vs 245 Maxxis actually is.
I'm leaning toward #1. But I know the autoxers used to shove 275's on freaking AP1 wheels. And While 4 points is a lot to leave on the table, I wonder if a 255 is better than a 235 to make up for 55 lbs. Also, that 4 points can get me my splitter back in case testing reveals it's helping more than I thought.

This is where I think the actual measurements will make a difference. Is it a wide 235? Especially when stretched on a 9" rim? I don't know. Also, it's a shorter tire, so think about your gearing. It might be closer to the 225 Hoosier you have been used to.

This is just my "opinion" after experimenting with a couple of homemade splitters at a couple of events, but I don't think the stock bumpers have enough area for stagnation, regardless of splitter size. An airmdam (+ another 3 points) would be necessary to provide this area. And we can't really get our cars low enough, or the bottoms flat enough, to take advantage of accelerating air under the car.

I think I'm leaning towards the Maxxis over the Nitto at this point, given the contingency. They seem to be about equally quick from what little I can read.

Maxxis RC1 have been putting down faster times than NT01 here in TX of late.

I could drive to the track on NT01s the RC1 doesn't look as friendly.

The airdam is much more important than a high splitter. Try it.

For another reclass point of reference, here is what I got back for my AP1 (stock engine except for header-back exhaust):

TTC 215hp @ 2765 lbs
TTC* 216hp @ 2700 lbs

2700 lbs sure sounds fun! Not sure if I can actually get there without ripping the car to pieces, though!

I'm down to about 2520lbs depending on fuel, so I don't think 2700 is that far out there.
