2015 NASA TT Setup
Thought I would start a new thread to discuss setups for 2015 NASA TT.
Greg just posted proposed rules for 2015 tires on nasaforums: http://nasaforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=129568
Highlights:
Hoosier A7 = +22 pts
Hoosier A6 = +17 pts
Hoosier R6/R7 = +10 pts
Maxxis RC1, Toyo RA1/R888 = +6 pts
Can no longer take more than -7 points for downsizing tires
EDIT: 1/8/2015. Tires rules as posted in PT rules:
A. TIRES:
1) The following DOT-approved R-compound tires: BFG R1S, Goodyear Eagle RS AC (auto-
cross), Hoosier A7, Hankook Z214 (C90 & C91 compounds only), Hoosier Wet DOT (if
used in dry conditions—see section 5.6) +22
2) The following DOT-approved R-compound tires: Hoosier A6 +17
3) The following DOT-approved R-compound tires and those with a UTQG treadwear rating of
40 or less not listed otherwise in these rules: BFG R1, Goodyear Eagle RS, Hankook Z214
(C71, C70, C51, C50), Hoosier R7, Kumho V710 +10
4) The following DOT-approved R-compound tires: Hoosier SM7 +9
5) The following DOT-approved R-compound tires: Hoosier R6, Hoosier SM6 (note:
Continental Tire Sportscar Challenge EC-Dry tires (225, 245, 275) OK) +8
6) The following DOT-approved R-compound tires: Toyo Proxes RR, Hankook TD +7
7) The following DOT-approved R-compound tires and those with a UTQG treadwear rating
over 40: Maxxis RC-1 (examples: Kumho V700, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup & MPS Cup 2,
Nitto NT01, Pirelli PZero Corsa, Toyo R888, Toyo RA-1, Yokahama A048, etc.) +6
8) DOT-approved (non-R-compound) tires with a UTQG treadwear rating of 120-200
(examples: BFG g-Force Rival, Toyo R1R, Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec,
Bridgestone Potenza RE070, Kumho Ecsta XS, Yokohama Advan A046 & Neova AD08,
Hankook R-S3) +2
9) Non-DOT-approved racing slicks +30 (of any origin--re-caps and re-treads are not permitted)
10) The following tire sizes will be used as the base tire size for each Base Class for all
vehicles regardless of their OEM tire size(s) or their Final Competition Class. All
vehicles in a given base class may use this tire size (or smaller) without a points assessment:
19
PTB: 265mm, PTC: 255mm, PTD: 245mm, PTE: 235mm, PTF: 215mm,
PTG: 195mm, PTH: 175mm
Tire width points assessed or points credited are determined by the difference between the
width of the largest tire on the vehicle and the assigned base tire size as follows:
Equal to or greater than: 10mm +1, 20mm +4, 30mm +7, 40mm +10, 50mm +13,
60mm +16, 70mm +19, 80mm +22, 90mm +25, 100mm +28, 110mm +31
Equal to or less than: -10mm -1, -20mm -4, -30mm -7, -40mm -10

Pat, just started looking at this last night. My thoughts are;
1. Dyno reclass is only way to go. Not much cost, and recovers a lot of points
2. They're essentially trying to force people away from A7 and BFG r1s. So tire of choice will be R7 and BFG R1. I'm running some BFG R1 right now, and really like them. Will prob try new R7 too.
3. I like the balance my splitter is giving me, so I'm keeping it. I'm also keeping wing, springs and single adjust shocks
Only other mod I'm considering is a diff. From there I'm going with widest tire possible. So maybe 235 and a diff, suspension, wing and splitter=19

After thinking it over I think I'm going to go with TTC* dyno reclass, 225 R7, suspension, and wing.
I'm not sure a 235 is going to give you that much more grip than a 225 on the same (I'm assuming) 9" wide rim. At least not 3 points worth. It will be interesting to see what the 255 section width of the R7 will be though.
Wish I could afford an O$ Giken.
Edit: Also, I kind of like that they are trying to discourage the "A" tires. When almost all the track records are on it, it definitely looked to be the tire to have which can get expensive for newbies not getting contingency. "R" tires should keep costs down across the board for longevity and give others a chance to win without spending $1200 for tires that fall off quickly.

I can see them keeping contingency but just discontinuing the A6/7 eventually. I mean, SCCA pretty much phased out the A6 by making Stock class into Street class. And at 22 points I doubt they will be used for TT. I'm guessing that's the whole A7 market.
If they do pull out of contingency I hope someone else steps in. Maxxis is looking appealing.

Current setup puts me in TTC with exactly 39 points but these new rules would give me 1 free point. I wonder if I could fit a 265 however checking the 6 pt tire options none seem to offer something in that size.
