Default 2002 S2000 Vs K20 Integra

Before I get flamed at, insulted, or just simply sent to hell for posting this on a pure S2000 forum, please read.

I have a 96 Integra with a ls/vtec Race car but need to build something faster. I also have a 2002 S2000 street car. What would you choose from my choises and if you care to tell me why would be great. I cannot go any higher than a 2 liter engine. The weight limit is 1900 lbs. To give an example of the cars I have to run against, there are 2 ex-Realtime Integras and 2 ex-Mazdas Proteges (blue ones, can`t remeber the name of the teams) that also use to run in the same series. They are fast, really fast and reliable.

One of the reasons I was skeptical about the S2000 is because you don`t see that many on the road course. I know there are lots of guys that play with them atr the track but not many all out race cars.

We don`t have different classes here in Panama. Just 2 classes. The one I want to get into you can build anything you want, as long as the engine and car are from the same manufaturer, Honda in this case. Also your weight is .95 lb per CC.
So the question now is Integra with K20 or S2000. Weight limit 1900 lbs and no body restricions (you can cut or replace anything you want. I got my Integra down to 2060 lbs and can get a little lower.

To be honest I would love to run a S2000 because of the RWD but I have to be realistic and choose the one with better future and costs. The Integra with a K20 should be plenty of fun also and might be faster. Imagine 260 HP and 1900-2000 lb car.

Basically the Rules we race in Panama are based on a GT3 class.
they are so open that we can bring a TC2000 from Argentina and race it here. Even the car can be made out of a tubular structure and FRP.
For this coming year it looks that we will accomplish a different rule on the Chassis and will be that the main cockpit structure remains OEM, (pillars, roof) the firewall can be replaced, and the floor also.

I haven`t actually studied the case on the S2K, but if its the case there should be lots! of weight on body reinforcement due to the RWD. I certainly think that the S2K will be a more fun to drive car, cause when it comes to the corners, you can hit the gas pedal and increase the lateral Gs because of a few reasons including the weight balance. It also should be a faster and easier car to tune the suspension, the alighnment should be some more complicated, but I dont think it should be a big deal.

Thanks guys and once again, please don`t send me to hell for this, its driving me nuts.

You can do something like this. RWD, midengine, K20.

Gut that car and it will be less than 1900lbs.

Given those rules, I think the S2000 might be the better choice. You have the RWD and a higher specific output for the engine, so you should have a better power-to-weight.

The reason not many people race S2000s is that there really is no class for them. But you don't have that problem.

I'd have to agree with the guys here, no bias just because I own a S2k.

I say go with the K20 setup - a stock k20 in a teg should be quicker than a S2k already. The k20 has a more linear power curve which is more suited for track racing. Best part is its cheaper 2 mod

+1

Great example is the new Civic Type R in Japan tracking faster than the S2k stock for stock. There is a video of it somewhere. The K20 is such a great platform and the number of parts available for the DC2 chassis are endless and MUCH cheaper than the S2k.

Good luck whichever route you choose.

You guys have very good points. On one hand I have the S2000 with better suspenssion, RWD, wider tires, and killer looks. One the other I have the 96 Integra with a K20 with lighter chassis, more performance parts and cheaper.

You guys see why this is driving me nuts right?

Are you doing this for a living? If not, just do whatever seems like the most fun.
