05 Boxster as competition in Solo II AS
#11
I recently checked the www.atuox4u.com website with their recently updated
stock classifications. Im not sure if this was a mistake or not, but it classed all years of the Boxster S in SS. All non S in AS.

I'm confused here - I saw on a SCCA forums where they said all years of the BS (or I really wouldn't have asked) but Steve (PF) is usually pretty accurate.
If the all years edict were true, I'd love to see how the 05 base Boxster compares in AS. But then the C4 Vette is supposed to be the ultimate top dog here anyway isn't it?

Feb '05 FasTrack: Boxster S ('05+) goes to SS
FasTrack
Mar '05 FasTrack: '05 Porsche Boxster AS (no "S" implies base model)

Now I'm really confused
According to last years results, among the AS trophies were five C4's (some duplicate cars), two 993s (same car) and two 04 S2000s, and a C4 placed 1st and 2nd. There are also C4s scattered throughout the results. It's the Boxster S that appears to really not have faired well (which could lead one to assume that the 05 base Boxster would not have significantly more success).

I may have caused some of your confusion. What I was referring to in my prior post was that the top three B-stock S2000s would have also been 1-2-3 if they were in A-stock, as we are this year. And don't get me wrong, it will be a very tough battle with the C4's this year, unfortunately depending a lot on the course design.
As for the Boxster S, I don't think we've seen its full potential. There was only one at nationals, and I really don't know much about Uyeda, and how good of a driver he is (this is where Rhoades chimes in). I've heard that Danny Shield's Box S is dialed in and he was very quick in reginal competition in '04. However, in the wake of the hurricanes, his job with the Florida utilities kept him at home and away from nationals .

Need to choose my words carefully here, as Jason sometimes lurks on this forum under the handle Spaf.
Jason's a very good driver, but not yet a national champion-level driver. He had a few Pro wins last year against AAA competition (most notably Scott McHugh), but didn't do particularly well at Nationals this year. Other Boxster S drivers have done very well in the past -- one came in third in SS one year against the Corvettes, and last year Rob Falkner was winning Nationals in one after the first day, only to have a bad day and fall back a few places on the second.
There was a huge uproar when the Boxster S was moved to AS -- many thought it would be an overdog. This doesn't seem to be the case, but most would argue it's at least very competitive there.
