Default 05 Boxster as competition in Solo II AS

I think this is a R&C question, if not, just boot me out.

On Rennlist, there are some that think that the 05 Boxster will perform (all aspects) in a comparable or superior nature to the previous Boxster S. If that is the case, would this car then become the dominant car in AS? It does appear to be superior to the old Base Boxster, and that car was close enough to the S2000 in BS to suggest that its current enhancements at worse put it at a dead heat.

Just wondering

'05 Boxster S = Super Stock.

Some feel the previous year Boxster S may be the "car to have" in AS, especially now that the V710 will be out in Porsche-appropriate sizes.

I think he was talking about the '05 base Boxster, which has 240hp and weighs 2855 lbs. On paper it's a good bit of an improvement over the previous version - it had 228hp, right?

What are the arguments for the '05 base Boxster being faster than the '00-'04 Boxster S? It will still be slower than the old car in a straight line; unless the new car has significant dynamic improvements (which is possible), I'd be surprised if it outclasses the old S.

If the new car has more front camber adjustment, then things could get interesting...

Err, I thought he was asking about it in terms of competition for the S2000 in AS?

Yeah, thanks Elistan, I meant Base 05 Boxster as a competitor in AS. I forgot that the 04 and earlier Boxster S was still in the class. Still, it was the comment of a Rennlister who speculated that the new base car might be faster at an HPDE than the old S version that got me wondering about SoloII. I'm not contemplating a 05 Base Boxster, but was wondering if it would make for a very interesting AS.

Is the gearing the same? That to me was the main thing holding back the old base Boxster. Also I am not exactly sure what the difference is in the lower gears (1-3) of the 6 speed in the Boxster S vs the 5 speed of the base. If the 6 speed is shorter and only available on the S, I would still pick the old S.

I'm almost certain the 5 speed gearing is the same, and I agree it's to the car's detriment. Could the added HP overcome that though?

Spend $2,680 and you get the 6 speed transmission and Active Suspension Management in a factory package.

The '00-'04 Boxster S is already in AS, and its capabilities relative to the S2000 are already well known. I'd argue that the '05 Boxster is more similar to the '00-'04 Boxster S than it is to the S2000, and thus that we can draw better conclusions about how the '05 Boxster and the S2000 stack up by comparing them both to the old Boxster S than we can by doing a clean sheet of paper comparison directly between them.

The old Boxster S has more power, considerably more torque, and wider wheels. Unless the new Boxster has some significant improvement not evident from the specs we currently have available (e.g. more front camber, better gearing), I don't see it outrunning the older Boxster S's, which in turn have not been shown to be faster than the S2000 (although I suspect they are).
