Default vtec engagement

quick question...

Im getting my Hytech header and hondata tune by november at the latest. So far i got my custom single exhaust and a K&N FIPK intake system. Now my question is with those mods (i/h/e/tune) what would be a good VTEC engaging point? I see that people move that around so obviously they do it for a reason.

Any help?

Thanks, Luis.

Depends what the tuner is capable of. I would say try to lower it as much to where you have a nice smooth powerband. Like before your tuner should be able to find the sweet spot.

For optimum performance you will want to set it wherever the torque from the low cam intersects the torque from the high cam.

If you DD yours I'd say somewhere around 4500-4800 for highway cruising, if your comfortable with quickshifts you could go around 3800-4000

The tuner should be able to tell exactly where VTEC should be just by looking at your fuel curves. If you tune for a flat fuel curve with VTEC set high, then do it again with VTEC set low, and overlay the resulting fuel curves, the optimal VTEC engagement will be where they cross. Mine is at 3900 RPMs.

What gernby said. Odd that that's where I had my H22 with bolt on's and some street tuning with S300. Set by looking at the pulse width like Gernby did.

Lowest ive really seen it is about 4500, which is also what mine is set at. But their right, the tuner will know where the vtec needs to be set at. Thats why u pay the big bucks
