Stock exhaust vs Aftermarket

Stock exhaust vs Aftermarket
So I recently was able to drive a friends AP2. His setup was a TP to stock exhaust and it seemed noticeable faster than my setup (HFC with HKS Hyper Max exhaust). I went ahead and purchased a TP as thats where he said the power was really being made but as Im already going to be in there I wanted to ask this question.
Do you think the setup would be better as a Stock Exhaust and TP or Aftermarket Exhaust and TP?
If I could get good upgrade and go back to a quieter car that would be awesome.
Thanks

Aftermarket might gain you a horsepower or two, but nothing that you'll be able to feel from the driver's seat. There is a whole lot of "butt dyno" placebo effect when it comes to aftermarket exhausts. There is little power to be gained before a tune - which weirdly, few people actually do. Most people just want the extra noise and could care less about the power.

Wow, very different opinions in this thread. So one side or the other is wrong (or maybe they're both wrong!)
I will side on the aftermarket exhaust does not yield gains on this car. The stock system is just too good, too well matched to the car.
The one way you can get gains is with a tp or even a hfc, ONLY if done in conjunction with a tune that lowers vtec. Its the lowering of vtec that yields the midrange gains. It can't be done with the stock cat or you will actually lose midrange power compared to stock.
So you need to do both together. One without the other doesn't get you anything (and may lose instead).
Also, you aren't really gaining anything on top. You aren't going to see an increase in hp at redline. Rather, a bump in hp from around 3k-6k rpm.
Be wary of listening to what you want to hear, and ignoring facts.

Fact is you make gains with most exhausts. If it's a 70mm exhaust its going to make gains unless you have something clogging it. You're just not going to make HUGE gains by any means. Doesn't mean it's not worth it though. Test pipes are where you're going to make bigger gains, and gernby's mid pipe will make you the most gains, but a full exhaust, including header, is going to produce the best gains with a tune. Saying you make no gains with a cutback though is just false.

question. i recently put a q300 exhaust, and before is had my stock with uk mod mated to a plm header and a 70mm TP and i felt the car faster. but now with the header and tp with the 70mm q300 exhaust i feel like i lost power.
do s2000 lose power from having header, 70mm TP and 70mm exhaust on stock ecu? my s2k is a 2001 ap1
