Default Hondata tuning

Okay, so around a year and a half ago I blew up my motor and had an F24 built and I got a KPro to tune it. I got a base tune to break in the motor, but haven't had it properly tuned. I drove on it for a year and a half this way because I was broke and literally couldn't afford a proper tune, much less anything else. Is my motor going to be safe to tune? thanks for your advice.

If your motor is damaged because of the tune, then a new tune isn't going to fix it. However, it aint going to make it worse either!

Wouldn't of thought driving on a base break in map would damage the engine at all...

If you hurt the motor on the crap tune it could bite the dust once its finally making some power.

The biggest issue with an NA motor will be scuffed piston skirts which will collapse once you put power to it. That comes from running the engine overly rich most of the time.

Its NA so as long as the AFR was in the ballpark you probably didnt hurt anything.

IMHO, you have no choice but to get it tuned.

Like what gernby said, if the motor was hurt while running on a base map for a year and a half, then a tune won't fix the problem.

Compression test and a leak down test would be a start.

Guys he never said his current F24 is damaged. He broke his original motor, build it and bought Kpro with a "break in" basemap.

If you're worried about driving on that tune for that amount of time, then do a compression test and valve adjustment. If everything checks out, you should be good for a tune. Have you been monitoring the A/F? A rich A/F will wash the oil off of the cylinder walls and cause scaring.

yeah guys my NEW motor wasn't damaged. i was just wondering if it was safe because i haven't used my whole rev range. i haven't revved the motor over 6K per my tuner's instructions and I have had ZERO problems with the new motor and tune. has anyone else had any similar experiences?

H22, I have not been monitoring it, I mean the tuner said I could drive on it fine until the rings set. The car doesn't smell like it's running rich, but I will take your advice and get the valves adjusted and compression tested. thanks.

keyword "IF"... we never said that your motor was hurt.

If it seems to be running rich, like you said, how is the engine oil consumption?

Not reving a s2k past 6k for a year and half is more of a violation than not getting your new motor tuned I couldn't go that long haha. I think you'll be fine if you drove it that conservatively and the base tune was at least close.
