I looked it up. They only cost 280 bucks. Anyone have any knowledge about these gears? Is there any noise or reliability issues with them? I want to get them but feel a little nervous about it.

Nothing to worry about. Most people on here got their 4.77's from Kia. No noise issues with those gears that I have ever heard of. The only issues is the installation. I advise you have someone that knows what they are doing to do the work.

Don't let price scare you that's how much they go for I remember maybe a year ago in import tuner or some mag they had a huge write up about how companies were literally buying the KIA gear for cheap then reboxing it and selling it at a crazy mark up. At same time some gears are cyro treated or something like that not sure about the KIA right off the shelf.

I'm waiting for the 4.44 gears on that group buy. I can average about 27MPGs going mostly HW. Although I do rip it when I have a clear passage on the HW. I average about 70-80 MPH. I'm hoping I don't see that much of a drop in MPG.

From my understanding for AP1 (F20C and AP1 tranny) with minor bolt-ons (intake, header, exhaust and light tune) the 4.77 will give the best bang for the bucks (most acceleration). Socal driving at ~80mph will put you ~5.4k rpm. For AP2 tranny it'll be even shorter.

4.77 is a love and hate gear. So do your research on here because there is a lot of info as well my opinion on my gears.
It seems to me you can do all the research you want, but until you have spent time in your own car on your own roads, its hard to tell how one might like them or hate them. I have researched for over a year and decided they might be for me. But I will find out this spring. I take it your opinion on them is different? (not to get off topic)
4.77 gets annoying on the highway for long distance. I do love when using 4.77, i feel like in a go cart with great acceleration. Since the S is just my weekend car. I do not mind the 4.77 but at the same time this is a reason why it is not my daily.

If u can find them then they are pretty good. I had/am getting 4.44. I broke the diff and it is getting rebuilt. The 4.44 are great for DD. It is one of those things that I wish the car came with. But at the same time it is not like oh way night and day difference. I kinda wish there was just a little more to them. An that I'd why I have a flashpro with a 3600 rpm vtec. But the 4.77 is way too much for my car or my daily driving. Highways would just kill me. I would hate driving at those kinda rpms. Although they give a big difference in feel. They do seem like a huge difference. But the 4.56/57, I think are the best combo in terms of better acceleration and daily driving.

This is the dilema I am in as well. I dont daily my S at all... and sometimes goes weeks before I get to drive it. But when I do get behind the wheel, I like to cruise all over town, take the long way home, and a lot of times, my cruise is on freeways. I want the punch of the 4.77's, ,But like others have stated, hanging at those RPM's on the freeway seems bothersome.

I'm usally cruising the freeway right around 75 ( which in my Ap1, on my stock 4.10's I stay around 4200)

well depends on how much money you want to put down, you can upgrade to an AP2 transmission and run 4.44 gears and if that isn't enough, go get your hands on a this, https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/765...eduction-gear/.
