Yes, they were Probe rods. I choose them because I wanted I beams for the side load. There arent a lot of the volume rod suppliers who have I beams.

Unfortunately it was the fine detail around the bolt head counterbore on the caps that was the weak point and not the rod body itself.

I'm probably going to use Carillo Pro-A rods on my next 2200cc buildup. They pay a lot more attention to this area to make sure there are no abrupt edges in that area.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the Carillo Pro-A and Super-Pro-A AP1 rod? Is the Super-Pro-A version beefed up in the body or around the cap as well?

Sorry to hear Chris. That is a real bummer.

Bathurst just looks like one of those tracks that likes to eat cars / motors on a regulator basis. That is my favorite track to watch the Carrera Cup... actually any racing to be honest. Thanks for posting the vids. I enjoyed them

I'll be looking forward to the next build.

I believe the Pro SA rods are a lighter version of the Carrillo Pro H rods.

The Super-Pro-A have a thicker cross-section of the beam area. Due to that they are a bit heavier than the Pro-A rods.

Thanks Bernd. I'll stick with the Pro-A rods as I'm trying to keep the weight down.

I experienced the same type of breakdown last year with my InlinePro F25 (100mm stroke). I can't be sure of the real cause, the rod bottom went out through the cylinder block and I only found small parts in the oil sump (hole on both sides, even the starter is broken and the exhaust header is damaged). I found no trace of overheating on other rod bearings and all parameters were OK on the datalogger. It was the third track day with that motor. I was shifting between 8000 and 8500. It seems it was too high for that big stroke but it was frustrating to shift at lower rpm and IP said that motor is able to rev at 9k.
For track use, I think it is a better idea to use the F22 stroke (90.7mm) as you want to do for your next built. I will do that too.
The max power should be at least the same (at higher rpm) and less torque at low rpm will be better for traction on your lightweight car (maybe).

You think the failure in the cap was due to maching off 2mm off each side ?
