Default Coated stock header

Has anyone ever tried a high temperature ceramic coating on a stock header? Anything like Swaintech or HPC? Thinking of the possibilities of this route vs. just getting a berk coated header.

I have heat tape wrap on mine, it was a LOT of work grinding off all the heat shield tabs but I think it loks assume and others have too.

I have no dyno results for the mod though so ........

Do you ever check the the welds periodically??

If you went with a coating you would be able to visually see the welds.

If you go for a wrap, if you wrap the header yourself, you will most likely not want to check the welds after as the fiberglass based wraps are not a lot of fun to work with.

If you are wrapping the stock header, the pipe material is very thick compared to aftermarket header(s) and is also stainless steel.

Many people will say that wraps hold moisture in and destroy/cause rust on the material underneath.

I can post some pictures of my Husaberg FE450 (dirt bike) header that is wrapped and made of stainless. It has been wrapped the entire time I have owned the bike. The wrap is worn out and tattered, (from the environment in which you ride, mud, deep puddles, twigs, rocks etc.). I have inspected the exhaust already and there is no signs of rust or degrading of the metal after 4+ years of riding in mud, rain and snow.

I wire wheeled mine down with a grinder, my friend has it now and going on 6 years no rust. Autozone high temp flat black. Gotta get ALL the rust off. Or sand blast it!

I changed my original post. I meant a high temp ceramic coating instead of just painting it.

I had my factory header coated by Swaintech last year. I saw about a 15-30 degree temperature change while driving around on the street (minimal stops). I mainly did it to test it out and see if i could lower the underhood temps with the OEM intake system. I did see results, however, they were very are minimal.

Thanks for your input. Exactly what I was hoping to do. But since I'm gonna be using a hytech header, now I'm wondering on the benefits of coating it before I install it.
