I just tested brian crower 3's. the dyno's posted in the other thread..

in short.. no cams arent worth it unless someone has something better than bc3's

Okay yeah I looked at that, how come you aren't revving any higher? It looks like if u port and polished the head u would make more power longer

^ this.

I notice that you're revving to 9000 with the ap2 crank. Educate me here: Can you rev to 9000 "safely" with the longer rods and shorter compression height pistons?

i am pretty sure you can rev to 9k safely on an ap2 crank. some people swap ap1 ecus into the ap2 to rev to 9k rpms. im just wondering what is the limit on rev on the stock bottom end "safely" i was thinking of bc 3's supertech valves, springs, retainers and everything. also port and polish to rev high for a longer pull + powerband. and adding a 100 shot to that.

I wouldnt rev a stock ap2 bottom end to 9000 on a regular basis. I have seen too many with rod failure.

I am turning mine to 9200 rpms, going higher wouldnt do me any good, the power is falling off by then

IMHO these motors need a good intake manifold before they need cams.

what can these motors flow to with stock intake manifold?

what do you mean "what can teh motors flow?" doesnt make alot of since to me...

There are a few 2.4 liter motors making 250-300hp with the stock manifold, but they all peak really low and just carry the power out.

I think a GOOD intake manifold would keep the power climbing instead of leveling off.

I don't mean to hijack, I'll make my own thread if requested.

So Wadzii, revving the ap2 crank with the ap1 rods and Mahle pistons won't cause premature engine failure? In other words, is this combo more RPM friendly than the OEM 2.2? I'm speaking in terms of internal stresses, not necessarily power production.

As for the subject of cams, would ITB's provide the needed intake upgrade to make the engine breathe better and make better use of cams?

using the ap1 is not needed, the length isnt enough longer to really matter.

I think the stock bolts and or stock rods arent strong enough...

with aftermarket rods 9000+ rpms on an ap2 crank is not an issue.

ITB's would help, but i'm cheap, i'm not spending another $2000 on this setup just for an intake..

I'm working on getting a 75 or 90mm throttle body going on the stock manifold. Should be cheap/easy to do and give some more insight into what the issue is.
