Default Ap1 engine with ap2 tranny dyno/power info request

To start off, I apologize if this is the wrong section to ask, but as I was in a popular conversation about swapping the ap2 transmission into an ap1, a remark was made about having a power loss or a drop off in vtec after 8400. His information was based on asking local tuners but I thought it would be helpful to see if it actually happens on dyno.

No I'm not knowledgable about gearing and I guess I don't have common sense on my side when it comes to this. Maybe someone can explain more about it or if there's someone who has a dyno sheet of this combo, it would ease my mind.

A friend told me the transmission has nothing to do with how the engine makes power. I know the ap2 has shorter gearing due to the secondary reduction gearing, but does that actually affect the power band up to 9k? Thanks in advance, and I apologize again if this question is dumb, I've searched trying to find my definite answer so I wouldn't have to embarrass myself.

I read somewhere that the AP1 engine with an AP2 transmission is the best combo. Can someone fill in with details?

I heard only because the ap2 synchros are carbon fiber instead of the brass ap1 have so it's just stronger in that aspect. 5th or/and 6th gears are longer in the ap2 for better highway driving I hear, but not so good if your boosted because 1st and 2nd will have the shorter reduction gearing or something like that.

This is just what I read, I've seen a lot of threads about the swap, just couldn't find any info. on this matter, probably for a reason lol.

I have the ap1/ap2 combo, I did the swap about 8 months ago. I did notice a little better shifting feel with the ap2 transmission, other than that though I'd say the difference is negligible. 6th gear is a bit more highway-cruising friendly, and I do notice a little bit of difference in the lower gears, but it isn't anything too crazy.

Do you notice any loss in power after 8400 or is it solid all the way through the top? I know it might be hard to tell since it happens so fast but I thought id ask.

^ nope, not at all! Strong all the way up to 9k. The gearing isn't THAT much different than an ap1, there's a chart on here somewhere that lists all the gear ratios for every gear. Just some slight differences, the final drive gear is still the same.

AP1 6-speed, close-ratio Primary Gear Reduction:1.160
1st gear - 3.133
2nd gear - 2.045
3rd gear - 1.481
4th gear - 1.161
5th gear - 0.970
6th gear - 0.810
Reverse - 2.800
Final Drive - 4.10 with Torque-Sensing Limited-Slip

AP2 6-Speed Transmissions Gear Ratios: Primary Gear Reduction - 1.208
1st gear - 3.133
2nd gear - 2.045
3rd gear - 1.481
4th gear - 1.161
5th gear - 0.942
6th gear - 0.763
Reverse - 2.800
Final Drive Ratio - 4.100

This is what I found through searching, if someone can verify the accuracy that'd be great.

The ap2 has shorter 1-4th gears and longer 5th and 6th gear.
