They can be 243, 706, 799 or 862 depending on the year they were removed from. Gigdy is correct about 243's... apparently they are usually spotted in '05 model trucks. Gotta love GM and their inconsistencies.

Lee, I strongly recommend checking out local salvage yards for 243/799 heads! I just picked up a pair off an 08' silverado for $280 picked up!

Lee,

About how many hours do you think you put into preparing the chassis for the engine and trans? Cutting, trimming, beating, and welding. I don't have any of these tools so I have to take the car somewhere for someone to do it for me. Just seeing how long it will take and the cost I'm looking to pay.

Thanks,

Eric

Probably 25-30 hours roughly, and another 5hrs or so massaging tunnel when I had the engine and trans ready to go in to make it fit just right,

My advice, buy the tools, way cheaper then paying someone all those hours ..... And u have tools after the job is done !!

I figured If I were to do it for someone I'd need like $12000 in labour from beginning to turn key, 150 hours total to do everything, complete, test driven, etc....and thats on the low end, most shops are at least $75-95/hr.... It's a lot of work, 6 months of almost every day couple hours here and there, lots of parts running, etc! Very fun exciting journey that's for sure.......
And we'll worth it , the car is a f@#king rocket ship !!!
Good luck !

Lee

Once I sell my current V8 S2000 we are going to do a time lapse video of a build (probably on my daily driver) of three of us doing a swap. We are going to have everything on hand and ready to install and we want to see just how fast it can be done. Including fuel system, wiring, cutting, trimming, hammering, welding and start up. No shaving the bay or tucking wires. We think we can do it in a total of 48 hours (one weekend). Stay tuned

Sounds about right, I did it alone in 150hrs so 3 people 50 hrs each ......makes sense, and sounds fun, I have a video of the final install
