I was wondering if using header heat wrap on our OEM header would further reduce under hood temps compared to the OEM heat shields?

I know wrapping can potentially shorten the headers life span, but at $75-100 for a used header doesn't seem like a big risk compared to potential cooler underhood temperatures.

We all know how sensitive our ECU can be with increased temps.

Definitely! So much so, that after driving for a while, you can touch the wrapped header! Insane!

Mine was wrapped for a good 4-5 years. When I finally unwrapped it, it was in the same condition as before. Wrapping it causes no damage at all.

The hardest part would be shaving everything off to properly wrap the header completely.

I would recommend getting it Jet-Hot coated or similar over wrap. As state, wraps can retain water and cause corrosion depending on your climate and how much and often they are exposed to water. The coating is more effective as it can be applied both inside and out and would allow you to continue to using the OEM heat shields to further cut down the under-hood temps. Plus it looks better.

I agree that it might just get wet and trap the moisture in. So I would just use Jet-Hot coat or something similar to it.

Once you fire it up, it's a thousand degrees, how can it trap moisture in?

There's moisture in the air and the water that wrap is exposed to does not necessarily evaporate completely. You can find plenty of instances online with video and pictures where wrapped mild steel has corroded due to wraps. The wrap will also trap heat keeping the header from cooling as readily. At the end of the day, ceramic coatings are a far more effective solution.
